New training courses to set up in Sydney suburb

Residents and businesses in Alexandria will soon be able to benefit from new TAFE training programmes on their doorstep.

As part of the new Green Square development which includes part of Alexandria and nearby suburbs, TAFE New South Wales will be introducing a range of new courses to be taught in the area.

Details of a purpose-built training centre to be located at Green Square are likely to be announced later but, for now, the organisation is working with local businesses and Chambers of Commerce to develop programmes targeted at the types of employment likely to be needed as the development continues.

NSW Minister for Skills John Barilaro said TAFE NSW was hoping to work closely with employers to ensure the courses were relevant.

He said:

“At the same time that job numbers are increasing in key industries, the types of work people are performing in Sydney is also changing. Employers in all sectors need a training provider which can work flexibly with them."

The first courses will be offered in construction, information technology and hospitality and are likely to be advertised through Brochures or Flyers delivered to local residents and businesses.

When it is complete Green Square is set to have a population of up to 61,000 people and create around 21,000 jobs. Facilities will include a library, childcare, aquatic centre and a creative hub.
