Alexandria, New South Wales will be the site of a new sports stadium to be funded by the City of Sydney.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the facility will provide practice and competition space for basketball, netball and futsal teams.
He said the new Perry Park Recreational Facility, easily accessible from the new town centre at Green Square, would be constructed next to the current basketball stadium.
The Signs are that this new complex will further inspire residents to pursue healthy, active lifestyles, which is great for all concerned, according to the Lord Mayor.
He said the creation and ongoing maintenance of sporting facilities and open spaces throughout Alexandria and the City of Sydney was an investment in the wellbeing and health of an ever-growing population.
The facilities and provision of open spaces, he added, are particularly important in an area like Sydney City where 75 per cent of residents reside in apartments.
Lord Mayor Moore said that during the past decade, $270 million had been invested on upgraded or new open space.
In excess of 250 major projects incorporating community spaces, pools, playgrounds and parks have also been completed since 2004. Many have been featured on local Postcards and Holiday Cards as popular local attractions.
He said the City continues to maintain four skate parks, six fitness gyms, five aquatic centres, eight indoor recreation facilities, thirteen playing fields and outdoor courts, twenty-one tennis courts and ninety playgrounds.
