Alexandria residents will enjoy additional opportunities to learn, explore and connect following the introduction of new library services due to be implemented in the near future.
The City of Sydney plans to give residents access to entertainment resources, information and cutting-edge communication at all of its nine libraries.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said planned improvements include enhanced customer service, self-service kiosks, upgraded facilities and new technology, including digital printing services.
He said as a result of the latest technology in Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), library visitors will also benefit from more accurate, user-friendly and faster transactions and self-service kiosks that will allow people a much easier and quicker way to check in and out.
The Lord Mayor said that during the yearlong trial, overdue item fines will be waived in an attempt to encourage increased numbers of visitors and to streamline the return of Books.
The move comes after a century of service from the city’s libraries, including the provision of artist exhibition space and many multicultural programmes.
According to Lord Mayor Moore, the role of libraries is changing as new technologies evolve and it is important to ensure community facilities stay relevant and functional.
He said the libraries’ scanning, copying and printing services, together with the computers, will receive an upgrade.
The Waterloo Library, which services the Alexandria area, will be closed from November 21 until January 3 while work is carried out.
