Learn to grow organic fruit in Alexandria

Residents of Alexandria who are interested about food and its origins might be interested in learning how to grow their own organic produce in a workshop at the Sydney Park Pavilion.

A small urban space should be no detriment to growing fruit as even the tiniest of spaces can be utilised with a bit of creativity. At the workshop, an experienced teacher will introduce the group to the kinds of fruiting vines and trees that are suited to restricted spaces.

The group will also learn about the timings through the year of fruit that can be grown here in Alexandria. Importantly, pest control will be introduced, particularly how this can be managed without the need for chemicals that would adversely affect organic status. There will also be a practical session on propagating berries.

As a take away, notes will be provided, which are often produced at local Print shops. Additionally, all participants will receive six plants to go home with, to include berries and useful companion plants, which help keep pests away.

The Growing Fruit in the City workshop is taking place on Saturday 1st June, from 10am until 11.30am, or from 1pm until 2.30pm. The location is the Sydney Park Pavilion, Euston Road, Alexandria, NSW 2015. A ticket costs $50. Group sizes are kept small for optimum learning experience.
