As part of its cultural and social grants programme, $562,000 has been committed to help stage projects within local communities.
The capacity of each event to celebrate creativity and culture, support business and the economy and ensure environmental sustainability were key attributes to their funding success, according to Lord Mayor Clover Moore who added:
“These grants go to projects that make a positive difference to our community and would often not be possible without the City’s support.”
He said the community and social grants were aimed at building more resilient and stronger communities while also supporting local initiatives. The events, often advertised locally via flyer printing, cover many interests and range from a celebration of cabaret to an arts and music festival.
The list also includes activities such as a picnic day for the Millers Point community, the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, comedy events at the Sydney Town Hall, a programme for the prevention of child abuse and more.
Sydney Improvised Music Association CEO Carmel Schenke was delighted with a $15,000 grant which, she said, would assist in the growth and continuation of the International Women’s Jazz Festival.
