A new funding programme that offers $450,000 in grants has been introduced to boost after dark activities in Alexandria and throughout the City of Sydney.
The City’s new look grants programme has been instituted to provide live music venues, with the funds needed both to help boost programming and to encourage local businesses to remain open later.
Applications for the first stage of funding have already opened, with a maximum of $30,000 in matched funding available to recipients.
According to Lord Mayor Clover Moore, the extra funding will not only support local businesses but also encourage an influx of new ideas.
“This new grant programme provides targeted support to increase the diversity of businesses open in the city at night, and help live music venues make the improvements they need to put on more performances.”
The Lord Mayor is welcoming ideas for the creation of a more dynamic and diverse during the night.
He said the grants represent a way to build on the area’s daytime business activities by strongly supporting more night-time programming throughout the commercial precincts.
The activities, he added, could include food and cultural events, live music programming, and retail promotions.
Both for-profit and not-for-profit organisations are permitted to apply for the grants, which must be matched by the entity’s own cash contribution.
Flyer printing featuring full details about the programme has been conducted for distribution at an information night on September 27.
Applications close on November 13.
