A total grant allocation of $1.4 million was announced recently to benefit a wide array of activities, ranging from school art programmes and sewing workshops to storytellers of the First Nations.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the funds will support 31 projects across the city, with $209,210 of in-kind support and $568,000 in cash going specifically to 14 of the events and festivals grant recipients.
Many grants such as these involve poster printing campaigns to boost awareness and participation throughout the area.
The sponsorship and creative grants programme has provided a way for the city to support community and arts organisations of all sizes, according to the Lord Mayor, who added:
“The projects we’re funding will help the day-to-day lives of many in our community, build the cultural life of the city, enhance creativity, and strengthen our arts industry – an incredibly important investment.”
The Yellamundie Festival is among the latest grant recipients, and according to co-founder and artistic director Lily Shearer, the funds will be used to help explore the art of storytelling via First Nations' composers, choreographers and playwrights.
The next lot of applications for creative and cultural grants will open in early 2021, while another chance to receive events and festivals sponsorships will be forthcoming before the end of the year.
