A joint initiative of Transport for New South Wales, the City of Sydney and four e-bike providers, the free trial of bikes in Green Square, which also allows participants to take them home throughout the trial period, aims to encourage more residents to consider alternative transport options such as cycling.
Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore said the City hosted a connected path network extending 25km, and experience had illustrated that by providing connected, safe routes, more people would take the opportunity to use them. She added:
“E-bikes offer a different type of ride and can be helpful for families with children, or workers who don’t have time to change before they get into the office. We’re excited to offer Green Square locals an alternative way of exploring our city.”
The e-bike trial follows completion of works on a new, two-way path that runs between Crystal Street and Gadigal Avenue, providing a link to the cycleway in Bourke Street.
Professional printing services have often been enlisted to ensure all new paths come complete with appropriate signage.
The Mayor said the trial was among a number of free activities on offer for cycling enthusiasts during the next few months, with guided rides and introductory courses on bike maintenance, as well as several other activities, planned.
