According to Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, the allocation incorporates 156 projects ranging from business expos and sponsorships to local food and music festivals and in-need community groups.
Moore was excited to be able to provide the assistance to so many initiatives and projects that will celebrate and foster the area's creativity and culture, while also encouraging sustainability and giving support to the city's local economy. He added:
“As we emerge from the pandemic with our sights firmly on recovery, we know these small grants will have a big impact.”
Moore said the council was backing groups within the community that give vital services, assist in the recovery of businesses and re-ignite Sydney's night-time and cultural economy. The long list of events and projects being assisted by the funding will enable the community to venture out and have fun together once again, according to the Lord Mayor.
The staging of new events can also assist other local businesses, such as printing services, which are often enlisted to help promote major festivals and more.
The funding approved by the council will benefit projects to be held over the next three financial years, ending in 2024-25.
