The Christmas programme will see the Pitt Street Mall come to life with a canopy that shimmers with the power of 85,000 lights, as well as 10 stars standing two metres high. Christmas trees will be placed at 11 different locations, including Martin Place and, for the first time, Glebe.
Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore said the festive celebrations will include light displays, roving performers, decorations and the host of Christmas trees. He added:
“While life is a little different this year, we’re still creating a festive atmosphere in the city centre and across our inner Sydney villages.”
Festive season enthusiasts or those seeking ideas for presents or Corporate Gifts will be able to take part in a self-guided tour on foot to see Christmas shopping destinations, trees and lights. It begins at the Christmas tree at Customs House and then winds through the area's historic precinct at The Rocks, followed by Martin Place and onto Pitt Street Mall, before coming to an end at the Town Hall.
Early evening and lunchtime musical performances will be held from December 4th to the 24th at Green Square, Erskineville, Newton, Pyrmont, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross and Redfern, while live performers, such as stilt walkers and musicians, will stroll through the CBD entertaining Christmas shoppers and local workers until December 24th.
