The Balmain Boat Company provides a traditional boat that comes in kit form and is engineered to be put together by anyone, no matter their level of making expertise. The process can be satisfying and inspiring, as well as showcasing a window into the historical aspect of boat building. Instructions for workshops such as this can often be produced using local printing services.
During the session, there will be hands-on tutoring by Andrew Simpson, an industrial designer and founder of the Balmain Boat Company. Simpson stated he enjoyed the challenge of:
“engaging people to build something with their hands again.”
The Balmain Boat Company - Build Your Own Wooden Boat workshops take place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January 2024, from 8.30am until 5.30pm.
Alternatively, other dates available are Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 January 2024, also from 8.30am until 5.30pm. The location is Uno Studios, 23 McCauley Street, Alexandria NSW.
The cost is $2,700 for up to two people. Snacks and tea will be provided, but attendees must bring their own lunch. Attendees will also be responsible for the transportation of their own boat on the second day.
