Locals in Banksmeadow and the surrounding areas can soon attend a community birding encounter, scheduled to take place in July.
Organised by the Randwick Sustainability Hub, this two-hour experience is part of the Saturday Circle, which offers a monthly connection experience based on regeneration, reuse and resilience.
This interactive experience will offer attendees a unique insight into the richness of local birdlife.
Participants will discover the Randwick Environment Park loop, guided by Renée Ferster Levy, a local expert in birdlife. They will also learn the secrets to bird identification and how to use the Birdata app. Participants will be challenged to learn three birdcalls and engage in quizzes and reflections during this interactive session.
The experience will feature collaborative surveys, which add to a continuing dataset assisting conservation and the understanding of local birds, and will include a morning tea with time for sharing and connection.
During the session, participants are encouraged to take photos, which will form part of an end-of-year exhibit and celebration. They can also share contact details and continue to contribute to Birdata after the event.
Organisers of similar community events can use banner printing to spread the word, attract interest and draw in more attendees.
The Community Birding Group will be held on Saturday, July 12 at the Randwick Sustainability Hub, which can be found at 27 Munda St in Randwick. The event will begin at 8:00 AM and conclude at 10:00 AM. Attendance is free.
