News Corp-owned newspaper The Daily Telegraph, set up in the affluent Sydney suburb of Surry Hills, itself located five minutes from Alexandria, the CBD centre, and Ultimo, has been honoured with a highly coveted Print advertising nod on the world stage.
Up against
some of the world’s most highly regarded outlets at this year’s International News Media Association Global Media Awards, The Daily Telegraph won third place in the worldwide Best Execution of Print Advertising category.
The prize was awarded for the newspaper’s acclaimed Les Misérables cover, which featured an elaborate two-page advertisement promoting the start of the popular musical’s Australian leg. The work involved the use of a complicated array of colours and specifically designed images, both formulated to compliment the special transparent paper used.
The elaborate advertisement was considered a ‘standout entry’ in the competition, the result of editorial, graphic design, and digital printing all working in perfect harmony.
News Corp Australia stated that a number of different departments worked together to ensure the final product was delivered by the deadline, a task that included a six-week printing test taking into account colouring and sizing.
News Corp won big at this year’s awards, which were handed out on May 24. The multinational mass media company took home ten wins and surpassed all other competitors in the Australian division. Other Australia-based winners included APN with two awards and Fairfax Media with one.
