What's Happening in Seattle, WA…

Seattle session to support local seed starters

Many gardeners utilize store bought transplants during the spring planting season, but a Seattle workshop will show how easy it can be to grow them at home.

The Tilth Alliance has made plans to offer a class that will make it easier for the gardening public to get a jump start on seed starting. The instruction will take place both indoors and out.

During the session, each of the learners will discover how growing plant starts can be an economical choice, and both vegetables and flowers will be included. Tips for setting up an indoor propagation area as well as how to care for the seedlings, prevent diseases such as “damping off,” and harden off the young plants are all on the agenda. It will be an in-person activity, and the class size is restricted to just 14 attendees. Masks are requested.

Grassroots level organizations perform a variety of roles in the communities they serve, and printers are often called upon to help them in their work. They can provide everything from banner printing and other marketing services to graphic design help, all at a variety of price points.

This introduction to the art and science of seed starting is scheduled for February 19. It will begin at 10:00 am, and the venue will be located at 4649 Sunnyside Avenue North.
