What's Happening in Seattle, WA…

Seattle invited to learn art of gemstone carving

Gemstones can be carved into a variety of decorative shapes, and a Seattle class will help members of the public get started at the hobby.

NW Rockhounds will be offering a Gemstone Carving class, and the participants will each learn how to carve a bird skull to display. This will teach them the basics of the craft, and it is for those age 18 and up.

The two-part workshop will introduce the learners to how to choose a stone to work with, and they will then be taught how to map out their design before they get started. After this, they will discover how to utilize rotary tools and which bits are best to use for a particular purpose. Polishing their piece will be covered as well, and after the second session has wrapped up, everyone will be able to take their project home with them so they can show off their new talents.

Tickets for this hands on activity are $315.18, which include the materials as well as taxes and fees. Liability waivers and other business forms for a class can be prepared by local stationery printers.

NW Rockhounds has made plans to offer this two-part class starting on Sunday, February 19 at 115th Suite A Seattle. It will wrap up at the same venue a week later on February 26, and signups are being accepted now.
