Forging workshop on offer for Seattle
Mother Nature has gifted humans with a wide variety of edible plants, and an upcoming event will show these can be found even in urban areas.
An in-person activity that will introduce members of the public to the food plants found right in their own urban or suburban backyard is now accepting registrations, and it is open to the public. It will explore the variety of species of edible weeds that can be found in Seattle, and it was noted in a release that many of them are both tasty and highly nutritious.
During the activity, the learners will find out which species are good to eat and how to identify them in the field. They will also find out how to safely and sustainably make their harvest, and an introduction to which plants are available during the different seasons. Forging regulations in the area will be discussed, and everyone will find out the importance of being careful when choosing a site to gather from.
One of the features of this workshop will be an opportunity for the learners to see an in-person cooking demonstration using plants sourced from Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Woodlands. A company that offers business card printing services will also be able to offer recipe cards and other materials.
This introduction to the joys and benefits of urban foraging will be on offer on March 26. The venue can be found at 5513 South Cloverdale Street in Seattle.
