Artist to hold workshop at Wylie library

The Rita & Truett Smitt Public Library in Wylie will have an art program in February where people can make an upcycled crafting project.

Those who like working on crafts projects can attend an event led by VET, an experienced visual artist from Texas. Attendees will get to create their own fiber coil coasters during the event. The materials will include upcycled fabric scraps, beads, and threads. The techniques used during the program are inspired by African cultures. The workshop is intended for those who are eight and older, though anyone 17 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

VET is an art instructor who has been working as a visual artist for over 30 years. She is an educator for the Artcycle Club who studied at the University of Texas at Dallas. VET has several teaching affiliations with organizations such as North Texas Regional Library Systems, the Navarro Art Council, and Collin County Community College. She has worked on many notable projects, including a giant puppet of Mattie Nash and a 30-foot Book Berm.

The crafts workshop with VET will take place on Tuesday, February 10th at 6:00 pm. Registration for the art program will open to the public on January 27th at 10:00 am. There is no cost for people to take part in VET’s art project, and materials will be provided at the venue. Libraries that hold art activities like this can utilize flyer printing to produce advertisements for their programs.
