Pflugerville plans environmentally friendly activity

Pflugerville Public Works is set to show Mother Nature some love when it hosts a special event next month.

The department has plans in the works for its Environmental Clean Up Day, which will encourage locals to do their part. The function will provide an opportunity to drop off unwanted items so they can be disposed of properly.

The activity will accept a wide variety of items ranging from appliances to paper for shredding. Tires, scrap metal, residential construction waste, water-based paints, and many other items will be accepted, and IDs will be checked as the opportunity is only open to Pflugerville residents.

Everyone must be in the vehicle lineup by 11:30 am. A list of what can and cannot be dropped off has been prepared, although many of the items not accepted can be put into the regular curbside trash. Commercial contractors are asked not to take part.

Hosting a community drop-off day can help a town or city to ensure that unwanted items are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Mailers and other items can be prepared by a printing services company to alert the public to events going on in their hometown.

The city of Pflugerville has scheduled its Environmental Clean Up Day for April 13. The collection station will be set up at 1201 North Railroad Avenue.
