Pflugerville history celebrated at German festival

Pflugerville's German past will be celebrated at the city's most popular annual festival – Deutschen Pfest.

The festival, or “Pfestival”, is a three-day party consisting of a parade, beer gardens, petting zoo, carnival, live music and carnival rides, Miss Pflugerville Pageant, and a 5K run.

This is the 45th annual Deutschen Pfest. However, a community German festival in May can be traced all the way back to May 29, 1910.

The community of Pflugerville began in the 1850s when German immigrant Henry Pfluger Sr. purchased a stretch of land and farmed it with his family. It slowly but steadily grew with the Pflugler family and more German immigrants, and kept the name of the original settler.

The highlight of the weekend is the Saturday parade in downtown Pflugerville. The parade includes marching bands, community organizations, and classic cars. There is also a children's parade, where local children dress in costumes and decorate their bicycles and march down Main Street. There are prizes for the best German-themed entries.

Tickets are $5 for Friday and Sunday, and $7 for Saturday. There is no parking on site and attendees are urged to use local shuttle services.

Printing services can be seen all over community festivals such as this one. In Banners, Signs and maps, and Promotional Products.

Deutschen Pfest takes place the third weekend of May. This year that means it is scheduled for Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17. Hours are Friday, 5:00 pm to midnight; Saturday, 10:00 am to midnight; and Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The international coronavirus outbreak may affect schedules, so check directly with the festival website for up-to-date information.
