New swim school opens in Humble

All Things Swim, a center that teaches swimming to people of all ages, has just opened up in Humble at 1307 First St. E.

The center is run by Emily Hansen. She started the school three years ago, but her first physical location opened up last month.

Hansen has been swimming all her life, used to play water polo regularly, and has experience working as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Her classes are in such high demand that she operates on a first-come, first-served model. Information about classes can be shared using flyer printing.

Her clients’ ages range from 0 to 60. She has the training and the dedication to teach all people, including those with special needs. Students are first taught the basics such as water safety and survival skills.

Speaking to Chron.com, she said:

“We want children to have knowledge of what to do in any situation. I try to think about anything. We swim in deep water, we learn how to find safe spots, we talk about where it’s okay to go, when it’s time to float, when it’s time to swim.”

Hansen’s motivation to teach other children how to swim comes from nearly losing her daughter to drowning 10 years prior. Her daughter was saved in the nick of time but Hansen would like to make sure that it never comes to that with anybody else’s children.
