Kingwood Middle School set for rebuild

Kirksey Architecture presented its plans for rebuilding Kingwood Middle School to the district’s trustees and officials at a recent schoolboard meeting for Humble ISD.

The plans show that the new campus will be situated on the campus’ north end. Access to the new campus will be from Pine Terrace Drive. According to John Wilkinson, who is an associate from Kirksey Architecture, Phase I of the project is all about constructing the new school. The old campus will be demolished during Phase II and sports fields will be built where it once stood. Graphic design can be used in such cases to display proposed projects.

Phase I of construction is scheduled to start in September 2020 and it will be finished sometime around the middle of 2022. Phase II of construction will begin immediately after Phase I is completed and will take approximately six months. The school will be open to students in August of 2022.

The major features of the new campus include natural light combined with warm accents and colors that were inspired by the fact that Kingwood is referred to as a ‘living forest.’ Areas will be set up for the students to work together, along with a gym and theater.

Wilkinson added:

“One of the big points we want to make is to really integrate with the community and provide them something that is inspiring.”

Construction is expected to cost around $75m.
