Families will have the opportunity to participate in some healthy outdoor activities in Humble during the Family Adventure Series: First Family Hike beginning next month.
Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens will host the free hiking series. Originally the private home gardens of Thelma and Charles Mercer, the Gardens were purchased by Harris County and expanded to 250 acres along the Cypress Creek. The area now includes a butterfly house, hiking trails, picnic areas, and restroom facilities.
The hiking series is designed to encourage Humble families to get out and about on foot throughout the year. January’s event will take attendees on an adventure through the East Side Main Garden, Storey Lake, Creekside Ramble, and the Primitive Loop. Garden staff will be present to hand out trail maps, as well as one bamboo hiking stick per person while supplies last. Hikers can also visit the Legacy Trees Project to pick up a native tree to plant in their own garden at home.
Organizers of outdoor activities like this often use local Print shops to help them create maps in bulk to give out to guests.
The First Family Hike is scheduled for Saturday, January 8. There are various one-hour timeslots with the first beginning at 9:00 am and the last at 11:00 am. Mercer Botanical Gardens is located at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road, Humble.
