The Deaf Women of Houston will host a Chili Cook-Off in Humble this September to raise money for the Deaf Women United National Conference, which will be coming to town next year.
The Deaf Women of Houston is a part of Deaf Women United, which is a national organization and nonprofit focused on empowering deaf women and women of hard of hearing by providing valuable resources and connecting individuals to each other. The group supports the enrichment, health and well-being, and education of deaf women living in the Houston area.
The Chili Cook-Off will be a fundraising event for the national conference that will visit Houston in 2025. Everyone, whether they be deaf, hearing, women, men, American Sign Language interpreters, or anyone else is welcome to participate in the contest. Attendees will vote for their favorite chili, and the individual or team that wins will receive a special prize. Vendors will also be welcome to set up at the cook-off to offer their wares and services for sale.
Cooking competitions may receive sponsorships from local businesses in the community, who may, for example, donate Promotional Products to be used in contest giveaways.
The Humble Chili Cook-Off will take place on Saturday, September 28, beginning at 12:00 pm. It will be held at 4401 Theiss Road. General admission is $10. The chili cook-off fee is $40 per team.
