Humble ISD is looking for community input on the proposed calendar for the 2021-22 school year.
The calendar was sent out to staff and parents at the beginning of December it will also be posted on the school’s website.
Very similar to the one used over the past two years, the calendar proposes breaks in October and February, both for one week. The school year will begin on August 10 and end on May 27, according to the plan.
The district has used different ways to choose its academic calendar over the last few years. Last year it sent out a survey to see which holidays people preferred. The year before, the community was able to choose from one of three Calendars. Promotional Pens could be used to promote school programs.
HISD only sent out one calendar this year, because most of the participants tend to be in favor of an early start to the school year with weeklong breaks in the middle. Deputy Superintendent Terry Perkins stated:
“The proposed calendar was developed with stability and predictability in mind.”
When the 2020-21 calendar was approved, 65% of the people surveyed said that they would prefer a calendar that had the breaks. Community members have been asked to submit their comments before January 4. The HISD board of trustees will vote on the new calendar at a board meeting scheduled for January 12.
