Area stamp collectors get to show off their collections

The 69th annual Greater Houston Stamp Show is taking place next month in Humble. It is presented by the GHSS Foundation, Inc. and the Houston Philatelic Society.

Collectors can participate just for an $8 framing fee. They will be competing for a variety of awards including the Texas Stamp Dealer Association’s most popular exhibit award; the other awards are gold, vermeil, silver, silver-bronze, bronze, Grand Award, and the Reserve Grand Award.

Categories of competition are multi-frame, one-frame, and youth. There is also a single-frame competition with the theme of blue, which means that at least one element in the Stamps must be that color. The winners of the competition will be announced on the last day of the show at an awards barbecue dinner.

For the public, it will be a good opportunity to see rare and unique stamps. They can also find out about the United States Postal Service at their information booth.

This Humble event will probably attract collectors from all over the state, and maybe those who are interested in graphic design.

The Greater Houston Stamp Show will be held at the Humble Civic Center from September 16 to 18. For the most up-to-date information, including the price of tickets to the barbecue dinner, head to the Houston Philatelic Society website.
