Myrtle Beach International Airport recently made an announcement that should make fans of Disney World happy—Spirit Airlines plans to introduce nonstop service from Myrtle Beach to Orlando International Airport. The service will operate all year long, twice a week.
The chairman of the Horry County Council, Mark Lazarus, said the airline’s decision was great news for the local market, noting that Spirit’s decision makes the Myrtle Beach airport the only one in the area to have nonstop flights to Orlando. He added that Spirit’s plans to begin these flights indicates the airline believes in the strength of the Myrtle Beach community.
In addition, Spirit plans to change its nonstop flights to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) from seasonal to year-round. Like the flights to Orlando, these runs will operate twice weekly. In commenting about the change to the BWI schedule, Lazarus added that the decision to increase the frequency of this service, as well as adding flights to Orlando, makes a huge difference to businesses and residents in the Grand Strand, and he wanted to thank Spirit for retaining its presence and increasing the service offered from Myrtle Beach International Airport.
The non-stop flights to both Orlando International and Baltimore-Washington are set to commence on November 10.
Changes like this can affect many people, so county officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for area residents, mentioning the change.
