A new Veterans Affairs medical center is planned for Myrtle Beach, and officials got their first look at the plans recently. The facility will be sited on Airpark Drive and will handle outpatients in a 100,000 square foot building. In addition to offering medical care, the center will include amenities to help veterans feel comfortable while they're at the center.
GuvCar JV is developing the center and presented plans to officials of the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board recently. The board was enthusiastic, and particularly struck by how detailed the presentation was. Although the plans will have be presented to the board at least once more, Rustom Khouri, the developer's spokesman, said the company hopes to begin construction in June, and finish by November 2020. Projects like this give officials the chance to use graphic design to create materials for local use.
The center will provide a number of services including ultrasounds, CT scans, blood collection, prosthetics, physical therapy, care for mental health issues, and primary care, among others. Since the center will be operated by the VA, there are federal requirements the developer has to meet, including having enough parking—in this case, there will be 593 parking spaces.
In addition, the center will be designed so it's easy to get around on foot, and will include a large walking trail to encourage physical activity.
