Myrtle Beach to hold family fishing clinic

Myrtle Beach State Park will host the Saltwater Pier Fishing Clinic in August for the whole family to learn the ins-and-outs of saltwater fishing.

The clinic will be led by The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, which serves as the principal advocate for the natural resources of South Carolina. The classroom portion of the clinic will be held at the Nature Center at Myrtle Beach State Park, and the actual fishing will take place at the pier.

The event is designed to appeal to families, with instruction suitable for both adults and children aged six and up. The classroom portion will go over how to rig a rod and reel, how to tie fishing knots, and how to cast. Afterwards, participants will drive to the pier, where there will be a designated area for fishing. Those who are 16 years old and older and plan to fish will need to have a valid South Carolina saltwater fishing license. Organizers also recommend bringing sunglasses, a hat, reusable water bottle, and bug spray.

The fishing clinic is scheduled for August 3 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Myrtle Beach State Park is located on 4401 South Kings Highway. Class registration is free, but attendees must pay the park admission fee.
