Myrtle Beach park to host womens fishing workshop

The SCDNR Fishing Outreach will host the Women’s Saltwater Pier Fishing Clinic next month at Myrtle Beach State Park.

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) serves as the principal advocate for the state’s natural resources, protecting the native animals, resources, and nature ecosystems. The department provides a variety of outreach and educational programs, including hunter, boater, trapper, and fishing education.

The fishing clinic is specifically designed for women ages 16 years and up. It will begin with an instructional session, which will take place in a classroom near the park’s Nature Center. Afterwards, students will go to the pier, where the hands-on portion of the clinic will happen. Students will learn how to tie fishing knots, rig a rod and reel, and cast. A fishing license is required if participants wish to complete the hands-on portion. Licenses can be obtained online or at one of the SCDNR offices, as well as retail locations such as Walmart.

The women’s fishing clinic is slated for August 12 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Myrtle Beach State Park can be found at 4401 South Kings Highway. The class is free, and those attending also receive complimentary park admission.
