Myrtle Beach gets ready for Military Appreciation Days

Myrtle Beach is throwing a month-long party to tell military personnel that the city appreciates their hard work and sacrifice.

There are a number of activities planned in and around Myrtle Beach over the new few weeks that are suitable for people of all ages.

Among the events are a golf outing, a dinner dance, and a baseball game, but the most anticipated may be the Military Appreciation Days Parade.

The parade's grand marshal this year is J.R. Martinez, an Army veteran who was severely wounded in Iraq. Martinez took 34 months to recover from his injuries, but today is enjoying great success as an author, actor, and motivational speaker. He also won Season 13 of ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Those who would like to meet Martinez will have an opportunity to do so at the Family Picnic, which will take place after the parade.

The parade is slated for May 16, which is appropriate as it is Armed Forces Day. Other events and dates are a golf outing on May 14, a Pelicans baseball game on the same day, and a Veterans March on May 25, which is Memorial Day this year. A remembrance ceremony is also planned for the 25th, as is the M.O.A.A. Grand Strand Golf Tournament.

Myrtle Beach officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to develop a mailer for residents, containing the schedule of events.
