Myrtle Beach gets new airline service

Travelers who want a direct flight from Myrtle Beach to Columbus will soon have one, according to Horry County Department of Airports officials.

Spirit Airlines recently announced it will be providing nonstop flights to Columbus, Ohio's John Glenn Columbus International Airport from Myrtle Beach International Airport.

Scott Van Moppes, who is Horry County's Director of Airports, said that Spirit Airlines has continued to expand its operations in Myrtle Beach, which is good news for South Carolina travelers. However, he says that perhaps the most exciting thing about the airline is that it continues to add flights during the “shoulder” seasons, giving travelers even more options.

Spirit Airlines prides itself on offering very low fares, which average far less than other carriers, a feature they call the Bare Fare. Another option is Frill Control, which allows customers to pay only for those products and service they choose, such as refreshments, baggage, and seat assignments, which other airlines include automatically. They also point out they have the youngest fleet of aircraft in the industry.

The new service is scheduled to begin March 23, 2018 and will operate through November 7, 2018, with flights available four days a week.
