An upcoming hearing will determine if a local park owner will be able to sell memorabilia items without constantly needing to request permission to operate as a retailer.
The TLC television show ‘Welcome to Myrtle Manor’ is a reality show centered on Patrick's Mobile Home Park in Myrtle Beach. Visitors to the park are eager to buy souvenirs and Promotional Products, and park owner Cecil Patrick is happy to sell them, but in order to do so, he has to have permission from the city. Currently, he reapplies for this permission every 90 days, something he would like to avoid in future by having the park's zoning changed.
Myrtle Beach wants to allow retailers to operate in a limited fashion inside mobile home parks, but without changing their zoning from residential to commercial. According to Carol Coleman, the city's planning director, the concern is that allowing a change at one park will lead every mobile home park to request permission to open a retail operation of some kind.
Allison Hardin, the city planner, said Myrtle Beach is working on a solution that would allow Patrick to run his store without having to continuously request approval. If people are uncomfortable with the change, Hardin said, they can back off.
The public will get to hear about the proposal at a hearing today, July 19. Agencies like these can work with flyer printing companies, which can create material explaining significant issues.
