Racepath Community Centre has found a parcel of land just a few doors from the current location, where he wants to build a new, larger center with space for parking.

The venue, located just off Grissom Parkway and U.S. 501 in Myrtle Beach, offers summer camps and after-school care on weekdays. All children in the community are eligible, with many coming from low-income families who are unable to afford childcare. The summer camps provide field trips, educational activities, snacks, and two hot meals to the participants.

The programs have been run for 37 years by the Reverend William Gause, who says the center has been blessed to have many supporters, but its needs overshadow its small budget, especially as he has actively been looking for a larger space. The current center is housed in a single-wide trailer.

He says the owners of the new property are willing to sell, but Racepath now needs to raise the money. Gause plans to hold fundraisers soon, and wants to have the new center open every day, adding computer classes, health classes, and senior activities to its current programs. Even if the center does not move, Gause is determined to open a food bank to help the needy.

Reverend Gause could start his fundraising efforts by working with a postcard printing company to devise a card for residents, describing the center’s plans and asking for support.
