A Krispy Kreme doughnut shop recently opened its doors in Carolina Forest, an area of Myrtle Beach.

The store celebrated its first day of operation by giving away free doughnuts to customers, who were already lined up at 6:00 am The first person in line won dozen donuts every week for the next year, while customers 2 through 100 will get a dozen doughnuts every month for the next 12 months.

The shop was scheduled to open Tuesday, July 11, but construction difficulties pushed the start day to Thursday, July 13. Nevertheless, people began lining up in front of the store on Wednesday morning.

Krispy Kreme says the new shop should bring 40 jobs with it, including positions in retail, production, management, and a supervisory capacity. Miles Herring, who owns a franchise, said there were a number of factors that made the location perfect, such as the lot being available, Carolina Forest lacking a doughnut shop, and Myrtle Beach’s rapid growth.

Carolina Forest residents were happy to see the new store. Jose Ortiz, who lives close to the location, said he is sure the traffic will increase as people come to the store, but he is not concerned because Krispy Kreme is bringing needed jobs as well.

Krispy Kreme has just turned 80. Companies celebrating a milestone year often work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for area residents.
