The Myrtle Beach Freedom, a professional indoor football team, is getting ready for its first season.
The team, which had belonged to the X-League, is now with the American Indoor Football League (AIFL). Ronnie McCuin, the team’s general manager and owner, said that even though the X-League no longer exists, the team itself is in good shape, and will continue to leave its mark on the community.
McCuin, Michael Coleman (the team’s new coach), and John Morris (president of the AIFL) will collaborate to influence the city beyond playing football. For instance, they will work to boost sports tourism by bringing other teams to Myrtle Beach. They believe fans of the visiting teams will come to see them play as they would any other type of sports team, and add to the city’s economy.
There are 22 teams in the AIF, and some are located near Myrtle Beach. This will make it easy for their fans to follow their teams when they play the Freedom.
In addition, more than100 players, many of them from the local area, have already inquired about trying out for the team. The tryouts are slated for this November, and the interest promises an exciting future for the team.
