Business owners create own task force

Downtown Myrtle Beach business owners recently set up a task force of their own to explore ways to help the area.

After brainstorming, the ‘90 Day Plan Task Force’ met with the Myrtle Beach Downtown Redevelopment Corporation (MBDRC). There, the business owners discussed their ideas, and asked for funding to bring some of them to fruition.

Larry Bond is one of the business owners who has come up with a number of ideas for improving the area. These include new art, new lighting, trash cans fitted with Wi-Fi, and a new downtown branding campaign. He talked to the city council about these proposals recently, and is now working to make them happen.

Bond says the idea behind the 90-day task force is to move the city forward more quickly than is customary in municipalities. Myrtle Beach has already agreed to order trash cans that send texts when they're full, which should help to eliminate trash spills.

Next on the list are vinyl decals for the sidewalk. The MBDRC has already provided the funds to power wash the sidewalks and decorate them with decals that feature original artwork.

Changes like this seem small, Bond says, but he and others on the task force believe they will have a significant impact.

Efforts like this might benefit if organizers work with a poster printing company to create Posters about the measures and post them in the downtown.
