Blood drive comes to Myrtle Beach

January gives Myrtle Beach residents the opportunity to start the year off by helping others, since it is National Blood Donor Month.

Residents of Myrtle Beach and nearby areas have many opportunities to give blood without having to travel long distances.

The American Red Cross has scheduled drives at a number of locations throughout the Grand Strand. All blood types are needed, but A, B, and O-negative are particularly desired. January was designated as Blood Donor Month because it has historically been difficult for the Red Cross to get donations this time of year.

Locations are as follows: in Surfside Beach, from 12 noon to 5 pm at Lowe's, on U.S. 17 Bypass South.

In Murrells Inlet, from 8 am to 1 pm, January 18, at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Cypress Avenue and from 8 am to 1 pm, January 20, at Belin United Methodist Church on U.S. 17 Business.

In Conway, from 9 am to 2 pm, January 21, at Conway Christian School on Medlen Parkway and from 10 am to 4 pm, January 28, at E. Craig Wall Building of Coastal Carolina University.

In Myrtle Beach, from 11 am to 7 pm, January 22, at Healthfinders in Coastal Grand Mall and from 9 am to 2 pm, January 30, at Socastee High School on Socastee Boulevard.

Red Cross officials could work with banner printers to create pieces identifying the locations.
