Royersford residents who enjoy art can view the works of Paul Oberst at an upcoming exhibit at Philadelphia's Bridgette Mayer Gallery.
According to a recent press release from the gallery, the exhibition is entitled ‘Illuminations, Jogged Perspective and Banded Measure’.
Three different series of the artist's works will be on display. The series known as ‘Illuminations’ will change one of the gallery spaces into a library, both modern and ancient. To accomplish this, the gallery will be filled from ceiling to floor with works, mostly photos, bathed in an amber light. The artist hopes viewers will try to imagine the stories behind the images.
His ‘Banded Measure’ series, which is a collaborative effort with photographer Patrick McNamara, shows men at different decades in their lives. They are painted with black and white horizontal stripes, and recall the kachinas (spiritual dolls) of the Pueblo Indians of the American Southwest.
Lastly, ‘Jogged Perspective’ displays more than 100 panels of various colors, mounted in close proximity, to allow viewers to consider the impact of multiple images seen separately and yet related by their color, size, and placement.
Gallery management might want to work with a poster printing company to design a piece announcing the exhibition.
The exhibition opens February 4 and runs through the rest of the month, including a reception for the artist on February 6 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The gallery is open from Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
