While fungi play a vital role in their ecosystems, public knowledge and understanding of them is often limited. A Royersford area class hopes to change that.
A Mushroom Identification Walk will be taking to the trails at Willows Park, and it will introduce the public to some common species of fungi found in the local area. The meet-up point for the registrants is in the venue’s upper parking lot, and it is free to take part.
Sam Bucciarelli will serve as the instructor for this outing, which will offer tips for identifying common species. The group will discuss some key characteristics that may be helpful for this over the course of the approximately 90-minute walk. Participants can ask questions, and the organizers hope they walk away with a greater understanding and appreciation for these organisms. Walkers are advised to make sure they are wearing suitable footwear.
An ID walk can be the first step for those who would like to get started at foraging, and they may also offer a lot of fun and relaxation for anyone who just enjoys being out in nature. Basic field guides can be prepared for an activity by area Print shops.
Saturday, June 3 will be the date for this introduction to the joys of mushroom hunting. It will begin at 2:30 pm.
