Kids are often fascinated by the way butterflies transform from creeping caterpillars to free Flyers, and the Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens will let them get up close and personal with these colorful insects.
The Royersford area site has planned a workshop for children aged six and up that will be all about butterflies and how they survive. It will combine learning with some hands-on fun. Each child will need to register and have an adult attend with them.
During the activity, the learners will discover the various species of butterflies that call the area home, as well as their life cycle and what plants they need to eat in order to survive. They will find out about their place in their respective ecosystems, and before they head for home, the kids will all use the supplied materials to construct a simple container planting that may help to attract these important pollinators to their own garden patch.
Workshops give youngsters a chance to learn about the world around them while also having fun and meeting new friends. Printed materials for an activity can be sourced from local Stationery printers.
Devon’s Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens has made plans to offer this introduction to butterflies on June 11, starting at 9:30 am. The ticket price is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.
