Royersford fern fans offered seats in propagation class

The Royersford Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens has a new challenge for those who enjoy plant propagation, where the participants will be working with native ferns.

Ferns, which reproduce using spores instead of seeds like other plants, will be in the spotlight for those who reserve their seat in the “From Spore to Frond” workshop. Members and nonmembers alike can register, and the fee starts at $45.

Participants will learn about the species of fern that are indigenous to the local area, and they will find out which growing conditions are best for them. They will discover how these shade-loving plants can be grown outdoors and indoors in a terrarium, and their reproductive cycle will be on the agenda. Attendees will build their own propagation bin, which will be filled with fern spores so they can get some hands-on cultivation practice in their own home garden.

Those who have experience with home horticulture may appreciate the opportunity to take on a new challenge, and a workshop can give them the knowledge and skills to do so. Learning materials paired with promotional Pens for making notes can be crafted by a professional printer and distributed during a class.

Royersford fern fans will be offered this learning opportunity on Wednesday, August 14 at 631 Berwyn Baptist Road in Devon. Tickets can be purchased in advance through its web listing.
