Annual fair celebrates the history of May Day

The Colonial May Fair is taking place next month in nearby Pottstown.

There will be lots of activities taking place during the day that should appeal to guests of all ages. Visitors will enjoy watching the dancing around the maypole and the Milkmaid's Garland Dance, which are two traditional dances. There will be magic shows with Levram the Great, acrobatic displays by Signora Bella, and performances by the Tapestry Historic Dance Ensemble.

For the children, there will be the Tuckers' Tales Puppet Theater, and games such as trap-ball and bean bag toss, as well as a kid-sized maypole.

The entire family can enjoy living history demonstrations of skills such as blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, and butter churning. Visitors can also meet a sheep up close and personal. In addition, there will be self-guided tours of Pottsgrove Manor available.

Various vendors will be on hand to sell arts and crafts, such as handmade furniture and clothing. Food will also be available for purchase.

Those who are interested in the history of May Day from all over the area, including from Royersford, will want to know about this upcoming event. Local Stationery printers may be asked to provide advertising materials.

The Colonial May Fair will be held at Pottsgrove Manor on May 7 from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Admission is a $2 suggested donation.
