Summerfest brings in crowds

Fairview Park held its annual Summerfest at the end of last month, and a bumper crowd helped add to the fun.

Activities for this year included fireworks, music, games, rides, food, a car show, community booths, and a pancake breakfast. The weather was warm and sunny most of the weekend, but even a downpour on Sunday afternoon could not keep the people away, and the Dick Nicoloff Memorial Car Show, as well as the fireworks and the parade, were held on schedule.

The parade route took marchers along West 210th Street and Lorain Road, both of which were lined with cheering spectators who encouraged units such as the Fairview High School Marching Band, youth softball and baseball teams, groups from several churches in the area, and Fairview Park emergency service teams.

On the Saturday night, the big events were a spaghetti dinner and a fireworks show, while the car show, a pancake breakfast, and a doggie parade highlighted Sunday. Games, rides, music, food, and vendors' booths were up and running both days.

Summerfest has been a highlight of the season in Fairview Park since 1992, when the first event was held in Bohlken Park - the venue is still occupies. It was started to give local schools, churches, clubs, and other organizations a way to introduce themselves to Fairview Park residents and raise funds.

The event is always popular, and organizers could work now with a banner printing company to create new, festive flags for next year’s Summerfest.
