Schools invite locals to have their say

The Fairview Park School District is mapping out plans for its future, and has asked staff, parents, students and community members for their input.

The district has devised an online survey in order to help it establish its priorities. William Wagner, the superintendent, said the schoolboard wants to develop plans that might include renovating the existing buildings, as well as changing the curriculum. Wagner added that he and other board members wanted to hear what the district can do to improve the schools, adding there has been no strategic plan in place for some time.

The survey asks residents to consider whether the district is adequately preparing students for the future, and what they think of the current curriculum and the conditions of the school buildings.

The survey is also asking respondents to consider the top five concerns they feel the district should address. The five are to be selected from more than 15 options, including arts and music, academic achievement, fiscal management, and technology needs.

In addition to the survey, the district plans to hold two community forums to discuss the recommendations. These are scheduled for August 24 and September 1, at Gilles-Sweet Elementary School. The survey is online now and will be available until July 24.

School district officials could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer to remind community members of the survey and the meetings.
