“If there’s ever a shortfall in one area, another has stepped up and filled the need here.”
The annual breakfast signifies the start of the holiday donation drive in the city. Last year, the Salvation Army exceeded its $75,000 goal and brought in approximately $83,000. This year’s goal has been set at $85,000. The red kettle donation drive does not just benefit families who apply for assistance at Christmas, but also goes to provide such necessities as clothing, food, educational programs, and utility assistance throughout the year.
The Salvation Army’s red kettle campaign is a familiar sight almost everywhere during the holiday season. The red kettle campaign is not the group’s only drive during the holidays, however. Many of its other drives and fundraisers might be advertised throughout the community with flyer printing and poster printing.
In addition to monetary donations, The Salvation Army is in need of unwrapped toys to give to children between the ages of six months and 18 years. Donations are being taken at the Salvation Army at 425 West Liberty Street or at the Not-Forgotten Box at The Gazette at 885 West Liberty Street. Suggestions include footballs, skateboards, board games, basketballs, Barbie dolls, makeup sets, arts and crafts, CD players, digital cameras, and jewelry sets.
