North Olmsted has requested approval from the city council to buy four new vehicles for the Service Department. It is expected that the council will okay the $315,000 request, according to an article on Cleveland.com.
Donald R. Gleaner, the city’s public safety/service director, said the city bought its wheel loader in 1997, and the machine is now “worn out.” The loader has been used more than is usual, so it has more hours on it than it should. The city plans to buy a Caterpillar 926M Wheel Loader, which will cost $148,000. In winter, the city uses the front-end loader to load salt into vehicles. In summer, the loader’s main purpose is to pick up concrete and load gravel, sand, and stone.
The city is also planning to buy two Ford F-550 trucks for $62,000 each. The trucks are four-wheel drive vehicles that will plow snow in the winter, replacing two-wheel drive pickups that were having trouble performing well in snowy conditions. During the warmer months, the vehicles will be used to haul gravel, stone, and other materials.
The last vehicle on the list is a GMC Sierra 3500 HD Sierra Crew Cab Pickup, which will have a plow blade attached. It will be used at the Wastewater Treatment Plant to perform maintenance.
Acquisitions like this are important to many people, so city officials might work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents.
