North Olmsted nature center to educate visitors about sailing

The Rocky River Nature Center in North Olmsted will be holding a class in January about the mechanics of sailing.

The STEM of Sailing is an informative, family-friendly program where people can learn how sailboats function through hands-on activities. The lesson will cover several sailing-related questions, such as why boats float, how they move over the water, and how someone can determine how fast the wind is blowing. The class will use experiments and tool-building to help attendees understand the mechanics of sailboats. All materials for the experiments will be provided.

The Rocky River Nature Center is a facility in the Rocky River Valley that gives visitors opportunities to learn about Ohio’s wildlife. The center also educates guests about pioneer cultures, ancient species, and local plants. Many attractions are near the facility, including the Lawrence Grist Mill and Cedar Point Picnic Area. People interested in renting out the nature center for parties, weddings, or corporate events can pay $300 to reserve it for four hours.

The class on sailboats will be on Wednesday, January 4 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The cost is $10 per person, and a registered adult must accompany all participants aged 8 to 17. The activity will begin promptly, so guests are asked to arrive early. Nature centers that offer programs like this may use Print shops to make ads for their events to display at nearby venues.
