North Olmsted budding artists await contest results

A contest has kept young artists in North Olmsted busy, with winners set to be informed within a week.

The North Olmsted Arts Commission recently hosted the “Life is Good in North Olmsted” Art Contest. The competition encouraged young people to make some sort of artwork that would show why they enjoy life in their community.

The contestants were placed into four groups by age: 4-7, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-17. The works could be drawings, paintings, photos, digital art, or three-dimensional pieces, such as sculptures. The work submitted had to be original, and ambitious artists could submit up to one piece in each category.

The North Olmsted Arts Commission will judge the entries, considering the humor displayed or emotional impact of the piece; whether or not the elements of the design work together; if the skill displayed in creating the work is appropriate for the age of the artist; how innovative the perspective used is; and how well it conveys the theme or message of the contest. Flyer printing can provide a guide to entries in situations like this.

Photos of the winners' entries will be placed on the city's website, and on the Facebook page and may also be found in additional materials published by the city. The awards will be one overall Grand Prize, a First Prize in each age and media group, and Honorable Mentions in each of the four age groups.

Winners will be notified by email by next Tuesday, September 1.
