Officials in Fairview Park has announced they will soon begin installing new equipment at Grannis Park.
According to Steve Owens, who is the city’s recreation director, the project will cost about $185,000, with the cost split roughly 75/25 between a Natureworks grant from the state, and the remaining $40,000 provided by the city.
The city applied for the grant last year, and the request was approved last fall. Once the city had approval, it put up a Facebook page asking residents to describe what they might like in the park. Responses led to the selection of the new structure, which is a platform that is easily accessible to everyone, and has two swing sets and three slides.
According to Owens, the reason for the upgrade was to create a playground that is completely ADA-compliant, and is on the other side of the city from a playground already ADA-accessible, Morton Park.
Grannis Park, according to Owens, has outdated playground equipment, but there is a lot of green space. The grant will enable the city to buy the described structure, which is totally ADA-compliant, as well as putting down a poured rubber surface, which will keep users safe.
The new equipment should be in place by the end of the year, weather permitting.
