Students from various grades at Fairview Park’s St. Angela School learned about helping others when they undertook Lenten projects recently.
Children made items commensurate with their grade and skill level, and donated them to various organizations. They also learned more about what charities are and how they operate, and what people can do to help.
Students from kindergarten through second grade colored placemats. These mats will be used by St. Coleman Parish at the community meals it sponsors in Cleveland.
Students in third and fourth grade made individual birthday cards for children who are in foster care at Ohio Guidestone, and listened to a talk from a Guidestone representative.
Fifth-grade students put together craft kits for patients in the pediatric department at Fairview Hospital. They also listened to a presentation from one of the hospital’s Child Life specialists.
Sixth-grade students made up bag lunches to be used by the Backdoor Ministry, St. Malachi Parish, in Cleveland, while seventh-grade students made rosaries and wrote letters to their peers in El Salvador. The students also made a video during which they introduced themselves to the South American students, reciting their names in English and Spanish.
Finally, students in eighth grade made infants’ fleece blankets to give to Birthright. They heard a talk from a volunteer with the organization.
School officials might work with brochure printers on a booklet for parents detailing these projects.
